Kate Rehill became an author after seeing the need for stories for her son and students during her nineteen years as an elementary school teacher. Her first teaching job was in Honduras teaching more than 70 first graders. She had the privilege to teach the phenomenal children of Camden, New Jersey for twelve years. She saw gaps in the children's book market for students who didn’t see themselves in beginning and early reader books. The passion for children’s book writing began. Her capstone project during her Master’s degree program indicates that when children read books that reflect their own (self-perceived) appearance, their reading interest increases.

While teaching first graders to write by studying mentor texts in detail, Kate thought, “If I can teach first graders to write like this, I can too!” Kate now teaches elementary school in Southern California. She uses her second language, Spanish, on a daily basis with her incredible students and their parents. Kate’s son frequently asks for books that relate to his interest in sports, his African American heritage and graphic novels that are not on the market. Kate seeks to write the stories for the children she loves, which include humor, heart, social emotional learning and interesting true things. Kate is currently seeking agent representation.
